Sweeping Up the Mess Exhibition – Sept. 16th – Dec 16th 2011

You are cordially invited to The White Carpet Gallery for an art exhibition,

Sweeping Up the Mess which explores the notions related to marginalized,

overlooked, unappreciated, work, identity, as well as political and social

issues such as current issues, war, refugees, and in general cleaning up

the mess of life. The exhibition is free. Donations will be accepted to

support the Refugee Community Center.

b.a.l.m.’s co founder | co director, Darin M. White is the guest juror/

curator for this exhibition in Des Moines, IA. The opening reception

is this Friday Sept. 16th from 6-9pm and the exhibit will be on display

till Dec. 16th, 2011.

Artworks include, site specific installation, performance work, video,

interactive, yarn bombing, textiles, painting, drawing, sculpture and poetry.

b.a.l.m. TRANS•parent TRANS•lucent Art Exhibition

Please join us for the opening reception of b.a.l.m. TRANS•parent TRANS•lucent
Art Exhibition at Flash Space 837 Massachusetts Street in Lawrence, Kansas
from 5-8pm August 27th, 2010 in conjunction with the first of the Final Friday’s
Art Events in the new (DLAD) Downtown Lawrence Arts District. This is a group
show exploring the idea of translucency and transparent curated by
Darin M. White. The exhibition will be up till September 17th and will be available
after the opening reception by appointment.

You are cordially invited to hear balm WHITE SHOW juror Samuel W. Kho and a portion of the artists involved in the show discuss Art in a context of seeing. Mr. Kho will talk about the idea of how shows connecting us to food and its preparation can help us view art better and then discuss these concepts and more with the artists. Following the discussion, there will be a closing reception and time to connect with the Juror and Artists.

The last day to view the balm WHITE SHOW is January 16th, 2010 before it travels to Hausmann Millworks in San Antonio, TX February 19th – March 31st 2010.  Thank you to all who have attended various events, artists who have been involved, patrons who have purchased art and sponsored events and to Signs of Life Gallery for hosting this show and events.

The b.a.l.m. WHITE SHOW opening at Signs of Life Gallery was a great success
with a constant flow of art lovers and interested visitors.  We are thankful through
our sponsors to be able to offer $2,000 in awards with juror Samuel W. Kho choice

This juried show brings national and regional, established and emerging artists
together with the inspiration “What is White?”  A b.a.l.m. collaboration with
Rex Hausmann, allowed us to produce an interactive performance piece for
the opting that illustrates the concept of digging beneath the surface of a piece
of art to reveal the pinata-like nature of art as it is experienced by people of
diverse agesand backgrounds in different ways.  We hope this piece frees the
gallery viewer to experience art in a curious and engaging way.
